Governor's Island

Last weekend, we visited Governor's Island. My dad was stationed there in the 1950s, so it was fun to see it, even though you can only visit a small part of the island. We took the water taxi back to Red Hook and came across the very delicious key lime pie bakery that I've wanted to try for months (unfortunately, the pies are not Jesse-safe). The lovely non-August-like weather inspired us to have a group over for BBQ and Jesse made his shiso wraps using leaves pulled right off the plant in our backyard. It was one of those weekends that make you happy to be in NYC in the summer.
